The focus of the Open Lab is about facilitating relationships, giving choreographers the freedom to work on a project of their choice with a mentor who will help elevate their work and career. For the first time, the mentors are all alums of our program. This lab will be a virtual hybrid presentation that will focus on creating movement at the intersection of theatre and film. The company has partnered with Full Out Creative who will collaborate with the choreographers to film their pieces which will be streamed live from Broadway Dance Center in New York City.

The health and safety of all participating artists and personnel have been our main priority throughout this process. We've managed to safely create new work while adhering to New York State's Media Production Guidelines, CDC Guidelines, NYC Media Guidance, and Broadway Dance Center's COVID-19 Safety Policies.

Curated by Avital Asuleen, the participating all female-identifying choreographers include Ariana Andretta, Sarah Juliet Shaw and Christine Shepard. The lab will continue its commitment to a mentorship component created last season that pairs each choreographer with a mentor choreographer. Mentors Rachel Leigh Dolan (two-time Helen Hayes Award-winning choreographer), Shiloh Goodin (Paradise Square), and James Harkness (Ain't Too Proud) will meet with the three choreographers to discuss an initial approach into the work, and will provide feedback during their rehearsal process.
